More Surprises
This week is off to a rough start. Aside from a log week with out of town visitors at work last week it was a short weekend and I didn’t get much rest. I am feeling like I am on the verge of getting sick and an emergency at the office had me working over 12 hours on Sunday and that took all I had left in me. There was no way I could pull myself out of bed yesterday and slept for about 18 hours. This is remarkable because lately it seems I don’t really sleep but I think my body was in a near comatose state. This morning wasn’t much better. I still feel spent and like I am getting sick. All of the communities around here are overrun with the N1H1 (swine) flu and a number of the schools are closed. Right now that is one...

I have appreciated the posts of Paul Cardall on this blog Living for Eden during his journey waiting for a heart transplant. Now, that he has received that transplant and is doing very well he has announced a special concert “Celebrate Life with Me”. I would love to attend this concert but at this point have no idea if my health will allow it or not. If you live or can travel to the Salt Lake City area I would encourage to you attend this concert by a talented musician with a message that that I am sure can strengthen us...

We would really like to understand “how sick am I” and “what should we expect.” We were introduced to the MELD Score (Model for End-Stage Liver Disease) which is used for classifying patients with liver disease and prioritizing the distribution of donor livers. The scores can range from 6 (moderately ill) to 40 (gravely ill). The MELD Score for adults (there is a modified version for children) is based on three standard blood test values: Bilirubin,...
Read MoreRound Three
This is round three of hospital stays. Today I had an appointment with the pulmonologist to determine how much of my respiratory issues were asthma vs. Alpha 1-Antitrypsin Deficiency. Of course there is no way things could go well or easy. This morning I discovered what I had been strongly cautioned about, a bloody stool. I was a little shocked and taken back. I actually hoped it was an isolated incident. It wasn’t there were a couple more before 10:30 am and after seeing the pulmonologist and some blood work they sent me to the ER for evaluation. The ER evaluation confirmed blood in my stool and bowel and so I was admitted for further observation and testing. Well here I am at the UW Hospital and waiting. It sounds like they really can’t do...
